2 0 2 3 Word of the Year
Why choose a word for the year ahead?
If goals and plans are too structured for you, or you don't feel clear enough about specific goals as yet, then a word of the year might help keep you focused. It serves as a reminder of where we are heading and what we might like to work on during the coming year. It also serves as an anchor, so when we are feeling less motivated, or a bit lacking in purpose our chosen word can quickly bring back into focus whatever it is we are working towards.
For example, my word last year was ‘trust’ and I kept this at the forefront of my mind when taking risks, making new decisions and accepting work projects. Trusting my own intuition and judgement was my foundation for the year. The word serves as reminder of what you would like more of, or less of in your life.
Sometimes we know exactly what we need in our lives, and sometimes we need to reflect a little.
Take a moment to consider the last year, what is something that you could build on, do differently or keep working on? (For example; closer friendships)
Think of something that you would like to do but haven't yet made progress on. What might be getting the way? (For example; Arranging time with loved ones and family, less working at the weekends)
What do you want more of in your life? (For example; Meaningful connections)
What would like less of in the coming year? (For example; Obligations and saying yes to things I don't really want to do)
Reflect on these questions and look for common theme, look for a positive word that inspires you take action and resonates with you ….. (For example; a word that links these all together might be connection or community)
When you have chosen your word, you can check in when you are making decisions and see if the action you take is aligned to your word. Is your action and decision allowing you to bring more of what you want into your life?
Enjoy! x
