How to maintain focus when things are super busy!

Keeping our focus sharp and staying away from the feeling of being ‘overwhelmed’ isn't magic or luck, it is often linked to our beliefs and what we are willing to accept for ourself. There are a number things that we can do to feel more balanced.

Maintain a positive mindset - If we tell ourselves that we're so busy, have too much on and it's all getting too much then we will start to believe it! It has become normal to accept this busy-ness, rush around and feel that there's no time. Of course, this can be true somedays. However, accepting that being super busy is the only option won't help us to make some healthy changes. Perhaps exploring an alternative is worth a try?

Keep the focus on how much you're achieving, the progress you're making and remind yourself of this daily. Be proud of the effort you are making.

Realistic expectations - Don't let perfectionism creep in or the belief that you are not doing enough take over. Accept that some days the dinner will be late, the washing needs to wait and the last meeting won't be squeezed into the diary after all. Some things (and people) will have to wait. Expecting everything to be perfect, and go to plan every day, can't possibly be the reality!

Maybe reviewing your ‘time vs. expectations’ would be helpful? How could you prioritise or schedule your time differently?

Ask for support - When we ask for support or help from others, we are allowing space for ourselves to focus on quality over quantity. It doesn't make us incapable or needy. Most of the time people like to help, and feel valued, being asked to do so. If we're happy to help others then why wouldn't others do the same for us?

It is much safer to be clear about where our skills are, what we are great at, than to over commit and under deliver. Who else could help and take some of the load?
